인간은 자신이 바라본 사물들을 언제나 자신에게 유리한 방향으로 해석을 하고 기억한다. 그 아주 작은 모티브에서 내 작품이 시작된다. 오래되고 낡고 보잘것없는 것에는 세상의 무심함이 있다. 소외된 사물이나 사람에게도 고요한 슬픔이 서려있다. 그러나 작업의 과정은 끊임없이 그 기억들을 지워 나가야 한다. 무의식적 편견을 줄여 나갈 때 가장 기본적이고 근본적인 것을 생각하게 된다.

작품 속의 인물들은 주로 발가벗긴 체형에 사람인 듯 아닌 듯 또 여성인지 남성인지 정체성이 모호한 여러 가지가 혼재되어 있다. 이러한 신체성을 통해 현대인의 삶의 외로움이나 불안 외면을 표면적으로 드러내고자 한다. 삶을 바라보는 인간의 복잡 미묘한 감정은 그 어떤 표현도 넘어선다. 무표정하거나 표정을 드러내지 않는 것이 보는 이의 상상이 훨씬 더 자유롭다. 그림은 어떠한 목적을 두기보다는 그 답을 찾아가는 과정에서 문득문득 떠오르는 깨달음이 중요하다.


Humans tend to interpret and remember the objects they perceive in ways that favor themselves. My work begins from this subtle motivation. Old, worn, and seemingly insignificant things carry the indifference of the world, while neglected objects and people hold a quiet sadness within them. Yet the process of my work also involves continuously erasing these accumulated memories. As unconscious biases are reduced, we are led to contemplate what is most fundamental and essential.

The figures in my work are often depicted with exposed bodies, existing somewhere between human and non-human, with ambiguous identities that blur the boundaries of gender. Through this physicality, I aim to reveal the loneliness, anxiety, and avoidance embedded in contemporary life. The complex and subtle emotions with which humans perceive life go beyond any fixed form of expression. Rather, the absence of expression—or the refusal to reveal emotion—allows viewers a much greater freedom of imagination.

For me, painting is not about reaching a predetermined goal, but about the fleeting moments of realization that arise along the process of searching for an answer.
