빨리빨리’를 외치는, 삶의 전투 안에 서있는 나를 멈춰 세워본다.
느린 것을 게으른 것이라 생각하며, ‘빨리빨리’를 부추기며 살고 있는 건 아닌가?
주변의 느림이 선사하는 삶의 아름다움에 공감했던 것은 언제였던가?

나의 작품에서는 쓸모를 잃고 버려진 나무를 이야기한다.
이번 작품에서는 컴퓨터 수치 제어로 재단되는 기계를 통해 쓸모있는 것과 쓸모없는 것이 기계의 빠른 리듬에 맞춰 구분되고, 순식간에 기계 밑으로 쌓여 버려진 나무― 어떤 시선도 받지 못한 채 순식간에 쓰레기로 몰아세워지는 버려진 나무― 조각에 대해 이야기하고 있다.

이에 취해진 조각을 덜어내고 남아 버려진 앙상한 나무 조각 들을 다시 모으고 보듬으며 새로운 나무숲은 만들어진다. 나무사이(間)로 보여지는 풍경은 더 없이 풍성한 숲을 고스란히 담아내고, 나무와 나와의 사이(交)를 통해 나의 존재에 대한 반추의 시간으로 재탄생된다.차경화

Time in junk lumbers
I try to make a stop myself for a while in the tenor of my life. I have been struggling for only existence for years. Haven't I led a bustling life, urging always myself to do works in "hurry, hurry", thinking that "slowness is laziness"? When was it that I had sympathy with the view: "slow life is beautiful".

In this exhibition, I would like to talk on the pieces of lumbers which are classified as useless things, and cut off and drop into the discard mechanically by computerized sorting and cutting machines. The discarded lumbers lose their usefulness and no one turns his or her eyes upon them. However, I like the lumbers for no particular reason, so that I gather the pieces of discarded lumbers and put them together in various new forms.

Doing it this way, I see beautiful and peaceful woods from the reformed junk lumbers. I ruminate over my past bustling life through the relationship between the junk lumbers and myself, muttering to myself "slow life is beautiful."—From the exhibitor's note
